Como Women defeats Sassuolo 4-2: Del Estal and Kerr are the stars of the match

Como Women secures their first away win, the second of the season, with a 4-2 victory over Sassuolo. This triumph gives Stefano Sottili’s team three crucial points, bringing their total to 7 in the standings.

The star of this important win was Elisa Del Estal, who scored a hat-trick, her first in Serie A. “I’m happy for my first hat-trick in Serie A and for my team,” said the Spanish striker after the match. “We’ve been playing well for several games. We fully deserve this win.” Looking ahead, she added: “You haven’t yet seen the full potential of this team.”

“The crossbar is still shaking,” joked Kerr, knowing she was a key player in the win. She was involved in three of the four goals. “I’m especially happy to have helped my teammates in this victory. They were well positioned on the field, and it was easy for me to put them in a position to score.”

The American striker, making her first start in Serie A, hit a long-range shot that struck the crossbar in the 29th minute, allowing Nischler to tap in the rebound for the opening goal. In the second half, it was again Kerr’s influence between the 63rd and 68th minutes, delivering two identical assists from the left to Del Estal for the 2-1 and 3-1 goals. The final 4-2 score came from another Spanish connection, with Salas providing a free-kick assist for her compatriot.

Coach Stefano Sottili was very pleased with Kerr’s performance and the team as a whole: “Alexandra Kerr was excellent in everything. She helped her teammates and attacked the spaces well. She was crucial in three of our four goals.”

It was a game that could have been tricky against a Sassuolo side looking for their first league win: “The emotional aspect could have influenced our approach, but our performances have always been strong. I see the team improving day by day in their play, fitness, and confidence. They deserve this success.”

On the two goals conceded: “We still need to learn how to manage key moments better, knowing when to keep possession and slow the game down, and when to push harder. We’re not quite there yet, but we’ll work on it during the break, though we’ll be without some players due to international duty. I’m also happy to have Skorvankova back; she will help us in this regard.”

A fresh start for Como Women: “The season is short, with just two games left in the first half. Now it’s up to us to keep going, knowing that the overall level has risen, especially among the mid-to-lower ranked teams. This requires us to stay focused with the constant goal of improving both individually and as a group. The team is new, the players are still getting to know each other, but the group is coming together, and I’m confident they’ll give their best to bring satisfaction to the club and the fans.”

He concluded with a thought for their kitman, who fell ill before the match: “I know he’s doing well now, but I dedicate this win to him.”

Como Women’s next match is on November 2 at 8:30 PM against Lazio at the “Mirko Fersini” stadium in Formello (RM).
