Como Women defeated 2-1 by Lazio

Como Women lost 2-1 at home to Lazio, in the match valid for the 17th day of Serie A femminile eBay and thus slipped to sixth place in the standings, remaining on 22 points.

In the opening minutes of the first half, Stefano Sottili's team started strongly and came close to scoring as early as the 4th minute, when Kerr faced the goal but shot too much, wasting a great opportunity. Lazio, on the other hand, were ruthless and a few minutes later, in the 7th minute, Le Bihan found the 1-0 on a perfect cross from Zanoli. In the 21st minute, Lazio tried again with an identical action, but this time Rizzon saved it on the line. It was just an illusion for the larians, because a minute later Simonetti, with a precise low shot from the edge, scored the second goal for the Biancocelesti. In injury time, the home side tried to react with Vaitukaityte, whose long-range shot was deflected by Cetinja: on the follow-up, Del Estal failed to find the goal that would have re-opened the match.

In the second half, in the 58th minute, the larians came close to scoring with Kerr, who broke free on the left and crossed in, but the opposing goalkeeper caught it comfortably. Shortly afterwards, in the 62nd minute, Lazio had the chance to score a third with Le Bihan, who shot with his left foot from inside the area, missing the target. In the 67th minute, Como Women found the net with a Del Estal header, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Como Women were dangerous again, first with a Karlernäs header from a corner in the 74th minute and then with a low shot from distance from Kramzar a few minutes later, both unsuccessful.

In injury time, all sorts of drama took place: in the 90th minute, Lazio were reduced to ten players following the sending off of goalkeeper Cetinja. On the ensuing free-kick, Kramzar scored his second goal of the season to close the gap, but it was not enough as it ended 2-1 to Lazio, who took home the three points despite the final push from Como Women.

Stefano Sottili's girls' next match will be on Sunday 9 February at 15:00 against Napoli at the 'Giuseppe Piccolo' Stadium in Cercola (Na).

The post-match analysis of Stefano Sottili

On the match: “Raising the level means being able to handle matches like today's and we didn't manage to do that. Playing such games for important goals should be a pleasure, as is still the case for fifth place: despite the three consecutive defeats, it is a goal we can still achieve. The bad thing is that we conceded a goal on the first opponent action with the first cross, after earlier, with Kerr, face to face with Cetinja, we missed the goal advantage. Conceding a goal like that affects you morally. The reaction in the second half was certainly positive, we also had our chances, although not very clear. We had the opportunity to reopen the match at the end, it's a pity we didn’t shoot more on target towards the end with a stand-in goalkeeper between the posts. There is regret in not having fully exploited the 6 minutes of injury time at the end after Kramzar's goal. It would have been enough to play closer to the edge of the penalty area to have the chance to shoot on goal. Unfortunately, this did not happen. Now we put this defeat aside”.

On the current difficulties: “Part of the growth process is trying to raise the bar and take one step at a time: sometimes it went better, other times not. We definitely pay for injuries and the reduced squad. We've been unable to train 11 against 11 for weeks, and this surely penalises the possibility of making choices both during the week and during the match”.

On the next opponent and the goal of fifth place: “Now we have the opportunity to think only about the next match in Naples, trying to do our best, which for us means winning. Then we’ll see what the others have done: now we no longer have the upper hand. I particularly care about finishing in the top five not only and exclusively for the historic result and the club's ambitions, but above all to play matches with stronger teams that allow us to raise our performance level, regardless of the result. You need to have the ability to face important matches with the right awareness and with the desire and willingness to test ourselves against those at a higher level, proving on the field that we are up to par”.
