Financial education with Michele Scarpeccio: the second meeting of the BEYOND program
The BEYOND initiative continues with momentum. This virtuous project, recently launched by F.C. Como Women, aims to provide a holistic growth path for female footballers, both on and off the field.
The guest of the second event was Dr. Michele Scarpeccio, a respected professional with 30 years of experience in the banking world. He has focused his professional career on the financial management of high-profile athletes’ wealth.
Scarpeccio was chosen by F.C. Como Women for this session due to the valuable contribution he has made to the athlete community, especially younger athletes, through the The Next-Life project. Launched in 2018, The Next-Life is a financial education platform for athletes that communicates with its audience in a simple and practical way. Today, the Marchigian Private Banker follows over 60 athletes worldwide, and his expertise has made him a reference point in the field.
Given the statistic from Lombard International Assurance, which reveals that 40% of Italian footballers are at risk of financial hardship within five years of retirement, F.C. Como Women wanted to offer the expertise of Michele Scarpeccio to raise awareness about the importance of starting to invest from a young age, regardless of the size of one’s financial portfolio.
Financial Education and Saving
“Saving is a mental thing,” Michele Scarpeccio began. Indeed, managing one’s wealth effectively is rarely something that comes naturally. It often develops through a process of understanding the importance of planning for the future.
“I’ve seen young athletes lose touch with reality, spending excessively and thinking that the contract they have is for life,” Scarpeccio continued, highlighting that in the world of football, players' contracts are subject to renewals, sometimes increasing and sometimes decreasing, which creates a degree of uncertainty. For this reason, among others, it is essential to avoid a superficial approach to managing resources in order to preserve financial stability.
“Planning goes hand in hand with the dreams and goals of athletes,” Scarpeccio emphasized, also pointing out that investments should be diversified and structured to ensure flexibility over time.
“If a person’s goals change, their investments should change as well,” he added, emphasizing the importance of a dynamic approach to financial management.
Mission and Vision of BEYOND, with Elena Mirandola
“F.C. Como Women is not just an ambitious club but an organization that is committed to taking full care of its athletes,” explained CEO Elena Mirandola at the end of the meeting. “As Michele Scarpeccio highlighted, the management of wealth off the field and performance on the field are closely connected, because in careers like these, it is the mind that truly makes the difference. We deeply believe in this vision, which is why we are working to guide the players on a growth path off the field today, so that they are even more aware and stronger tomorrow.”
