F.C. Como Women-AS Roma ends 1-3
The match between Como Women and Roma, valid for the third matchday of the Serie A eBay Women’s league, ended 1-3. Although the result did not bring points for Stefano Sottili’s team, it left positive feelings for the rest of the season, as stated by the coach in the post-match interview: “If we look at the first three league matches overall, this one against Roma was the best in terms of performance. We managed to stay in the game until the end against an opponent that, on paper, is clearly superior to us."
Indeed, Como Women immediately put Spugna’s team in difficulty, taking the lead in the 22nd minute with Karlernas, who scored with a header from a corner kick. However, the course of the match was affected by Bou Salas' injury, forcing her off the field in the 29th minute after taking a blow to her left rib. Roma took advantage of the new defensive balance of the home team, first finding the equalizer in the 35th minute with Viens and then taking the lead ten minutes later, again through the Giallorossi number 7.
“There’s regret for those two quick goals conceded after the substitution. They were two poor goals, in two situations where Roma did well to capitalize,” Sottili added. Karlernas, the scorer of Como Women’s temporary lead, echoed these thoughts: “We dropped too deep and allowed ourselves to be pressed; we need to stay focused and not give anything away to the opponent.” On her goal, she added: “It’s always nice to score, but I would have preferred the team to bring home a positive result.”
In the second half, despite attempts from Kramzar with a bicycle kick and Del Estal, it was Roma who extended their lead, finding the 3-1 with Troelsgaard from a corner kick. Her right-footed shot, helped by an unfortunate deflection off Gilardi's back, sealed the victory for the visiting team.
The next match for Como Women will be at home against Sampdoria on Saturday, September 28th, at 3:00 p.m. at the “Ferruccio” stadium in Seregno.
