Fiorentina - Como Women ends 3-1
"There is regret about the result; we are paying for some lapses in concentration."
It ends 3-1 between Fiorentina and Como Women in the match valid for the fifth round of the Serie A eBay women's championship. Stefano Sottili's team leaves Viola Park with a defeat but much regret for the chances created and the excellent performance against the Tuscan side.
Everything was decided in the first half, with the visitors taking the lead in the 13th minute thanks to Del Estal, scoring her first goal for Como Women. The crucial moment of the match came between the 26th and 28th minutes when De La Fuente's team first found the equalizer through Severini and then took the lead with Bonfantini, who was later named MVP of the match. The final 3-1 came in the 40th minute, as Faerge surprised Gilardi with a dangerous free-kick.
In the second half, despite the numerous chances created, especially following the introductions of Bolden and Kerr, the score remained 3-1, leaving Como Women with four points in the standings.
Here is coach Stefano Sottili's analysis of the match:
"We fought until the end. The regret is that we conceded two quick goals, as has happened to us before. After that, we had the chance to equalize, but we paid for the lapses in concentration in the first half. In the second half, we created many chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t change the score or capitalize. I'm still happy with the performance. I was angry last week against Sampdoria, where we gave away the first 20 minutes, which didn't allow us to play the game we wanted and take home the result. I want to congratulate my players; today, they did very well."
Regarding the new players, he said: "I'm also very pleased with the new girls, who have brought not only enthusiasm but also a lot of quality. They are players who will help us a lot, but they still need time because they come from other leagues and haven't trained with the team from the start. They will give us a lot: the impact has been positive, but we need time for this to happen."
On the upcoming matches: "We need to raise our competitive level, especially since we can't afford to lower the tempo against teams like this. The goal this week is to prepare in the best way possible for the match against Inter."
Alia Guagni's post-match words:
"We came here to win. We started off quite well, but then we had more difficulties than expected. I don’t know what happened during those two minutes when we conceded the goals, probably a bit of inexperience. There are many young players who need to grow mentally, but we have everything it takes to do so. We need to lift our heads right away and focus on the next match."
Como Women's next match will be against Inter on Saturday, October 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Ferruccio Stadium in Seregno.
