Stefano Sottilli joins as Head Coach of F.C. Como Women
F.C. Como Women is pleased to announce that Stefano Sottili will serve as technical guide of the first team.
For the coach from Figline Valdarno, born in 1969 and a former soccer player with more than 500 appearances in professional soccer, this is a new and great challenge in women's soccer.
Sottili has a long career as a professional soccer player in Serie A with Atalanta and with Bologna in Serie B, also boasting two call-ups to Cesare Maldini's Under-21 national team. He wore the Spezia jersey in Serie C for four seasons, collecting more than 100 appearances and coming close to promotion to Serie B against Como in the 2000/2001 season, his last with the Ligurian jersey. He closed his playing career in D in 2008 with Sarzanese, a team with which in the same year he began his coaching career that boasts benches such as Venezia, Carrarese, Varese and Feralpisalò. In his coaching palmarès stand out the promotions to C1 obtained with Carpi in the 2010/2011 season and with Venezia in the 2012/2013 season.
These are the first words of Stefano Sottili as coach of F.C. Como Women:
“There is a lot of curiosity for this new project in women's soccer, where I found great participation and great willingness to listen and in wanting to improve from all the staff, the club and the girls. I expect a great growth of the whole environment, for which I make myself totally available.”
“Stefano Sottili is the right person at the right time,” said DS Miro Keci. “He has incredible experience both as a player and as a coach. He is very good at group management, we needed a figure like him.”
Sottili will rely on a staff of great depth and international experience, consisting of assistant coach Rosa Lappi-Seppala, athletic trainers Mario Familiari and Nikola Dakaj, goalkeeping coach Stefano Grilli, scouting manager Salvatore Piccolo, team manager Roberto Zambon, and match analyst Riccardo Moro.
The debut on the Como Women bench will take place on August 10 in the scheduled match against Roma, the first of three pre-season friendlies in which the team will face Sassuolo and Fiorentina on August 17 and 23, respectively.
